She learns how to analyze her opponents to quickly locate weak points, regardless of how well they hide them. She also learns to feign fatigue, giving up, or a lack of skills, allowing her to strike when her opponent lowers their guard.
Sakura's lack of experience in fighting never allowed her to polish her basic ninja skills, such as hand-to-hand combat or using standard weapons such as kunai.
In the original series, Sakura uses the basic ninja skills, but rarely reaches a positive outcome. Her kunai are largely deflected, and she is often defeated in a fight.
Sakura trains with Tsunade to improve these basic skills and goes from someone who closes their eyes in a fight to someone who uses their natural strengths to enhance their physical abilities.
In Sakura's case, she not only becomes an adept fighter but also learns to use chakra to really make her a force to be reckoned with.
Fans of the original series will recall that Sakura had a hard time keeping a level head in battle. She would tremble, shake, or outright scream and fall over.
Sakura's lack of control over herself impaired her ability to think and act quickly when it was necessary, making her a less effective member of the team than her potential should have led her to be.
During her training, Sakura gains great control over herself, allowing her to keep calm in desperate situations, such as when she extracted the poison from Kankuro, or when she fought Sasori.
This clarity in a fight means that Sakura can finally reach her full potential, making her a valuable member of the team.
For example, when Naruto set up a trap for Kakashi in their first meeting, resulting in an eraser falling on his head, Sakura expresses remorse for what happened, insisting she tried to talk Naruto out of it, while she inwardly cheers that the trap worked.
All of Sakura's combined learnings over the years led to her completing her ultimate goal: becoming independent. Sakura bemoans the fact that she is always watching Sasuke and Naruto from behind throughout the original series, swearing she will become stronger and protect them in the future.
In the gap between the series, Sakura lives up to this promise, honing her skills and learning and perfecting new ones.
